The Birth of Gaurja Jaipur
Coming up with a name for our label was a journey of agreements and disagreements. Eventually, we landed on a name that resonates deeply with us: Gaurja. This name is inspired by ‘Gangaur’, a festival celebrated with great fervour in Central and Western Rajasthan. Gangaur, a festival that marks the worship and propitiation of Gauri by the womenfolk, comprises of ‘Gan’, referring to Shiva, and ‘Gaur’, referring to Gauri.
The Birth of Gaurja Jaipur
Gangaur holds a special place in our hearts, particularly for my mother, the co-founder of Gaurja Jaipur. She often shares her childhood memories of Gangaur and fondly addresses me and my sister as her “Gangaurs”. Despite belonging to a conservative community in Rajasthan, my mother always wished for daughters. Her dream was to dress us up beautifully, living her own dreams through us, much like she did with her Gangaur idols.
Our Essence
The literal meaning of ‘Gaur’ is Goddess Parvati, who is revered as the Goddess of Love, Beauty, Devotion, as well as Divine Strength and Power. At Gaurja Jaipur, we believe that every woman embodies the spirit of Gangaur. Each woman has the right to dress beautifully and flaunt her femininity with pride.
Our Commitment to Quality and Tradition
Specializing in Rajasthan’s handicraft, we source our materials directly from local artisans. This ensures authenticity while supporting the indigenous textile industry. All our fabrics are made from organic cotton, personally handpicked by us, featuring traditional prints such as hand blocks from bagru and Sanganer, kota doria fromkota, Applique work from Barmer, leheriya and bandhni from Sikar.
